INTROS – Kick-Off Meeting
INTROS Kick-Off Meeting Milestone Achieved

Infections in complex wounds often lead to prolonged treatment, hospital stays, and long-term complications. Supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the INTROS project is tackling this head-on by training a new generation of scientists to develop smart materials and tools for early diagnosis and infection prevention. Through a multidisciplinary doctoral network, INTROS is advancing nano- and micro-scale delivery systems, hydrogel-based patches, and biodegradable sensors that detect infection and deliver targeted therapies. These solutions aim to reduce inflammation, support healing, and minimise scarring. The project also prioritises scalable manufacturing and real-world testing in lab and ex vivo wound models. By combining cutting-edge science with hands-on industry training, INTROS is transforming the way we treat wounds.
During the 4 years, the PhD candidates will work in both industrial and academic sectors while implementing their work. As part of the funding scheme, they will be required to step outside academia and develop skills in entrepreneurship, industry and business by spending at least 50% of their time in the non-academic sector and by being jointly supervised by academic and non-academic supervisors from our interdisciplinary consortium.
